Nassim El Raqs/Dancing Egyptian Spring
Nassim el Raqs/Dancing Egyptian Spring is an experimental artistic project which will take place in Alexandria in April-May 2012. The project, initiated by Moutawassat (Emilie Petit, France), is organised by Centre Rézodanse Egypte in partnership with the French Institute in Alexandria, the Goethe Institut in Alexandria, and Agora for Arts and Culture. Nassim el Raqs is a poetical and choreographed journey through Alexandria, in which a group of Egyptian and international artists take over some symbolical locations around the city and transform them into unusual venues for performance. Although mainly based on contemporary dancers and choreographers, the project also involves multimedia and visual artists, who will be collaborating with their fellow dancers and choreographers for the occasion. 4 artistic residencies throughout central Alexandria will lead to 4 public presentations on 10th and 11th May 2012 in Alexandria, as well as on 13th May in Port Said.
The project, dealing with the question of art performance in the public space, will also see the implementation of various activities aiming at developing the awareness of the Alexandrian audience towards contemporary dance, such as a round table and a series of film screenings, both taking place at the French Institute. This artistic project is co-funded by the Delegation of the European Union in Egypt and by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture.

Nassim el Raqs/Dancing Egyptian Spring est un projet artistique expérimental qui va se dérouler a Alexandrie aux mois d’avril et mai 2012. Le projet, initié par Moutawassat (Emilie Petit, France), est porté au niveau local par le Centre Rézodanse – Égypte, en étroit partenariat avec l’Institut Français d’Égypte a Alexandrie, le Goethe Institut d’Alexandrie, et Agora for Arts and Culture. Nassim el Raqs est une balade poétique et chorégraphique à travers Alexandrie, au cours de laquelle des artistes égyptiens et internationaux vont s’approprier des lieux emblématiques à travers la ville pour les transformer en espaces de représentation artistique le temps de l’événement. Bien que notre démarche s’appuie principalement sur la danse contemporaine, le projet verra également la contribution d’artistes visuels et multimédia, qui collaboreront avec les danseurs et chorégraphes le temps de l’événement. 4 résidences artistiques a travers le centre-ville d’Alexandrie vont donner 4 projets artistiques présentés au public alexandrin les 10 et 11 mai 2012. Une présentation publique aura également lieu a Port Saïd le 13 mai 2012.
En marge du projet, qui touche à la question de l’art dans l’espace public, un certain nombre d’activités visant a sensibiliser le public alexandrin a la danse contemporaine seront organisées, telles qu’une table ronde et un cycle de films de danse. Ces activités se dérouleront a l’Institut Français d’Égypte a Alexandrie. Le programme complet du projet sera très prochainement mis en ligne.
