Screening of the Nassim el Raqs movie tonight at the French Institute

Do not miss tonight at 7pm at the Theatre of the French Institute the screening of the documentary movie about last year’s edition of ‘Nassim el Raqs‘, the first festival of contemporary dance in the public space in Alexandria. The film is directed by Mark Lotfy.

The movie will be screened in Arabic language.

This documentary gives an insight into the work carried out by the four artists invited to take part in the first edition of Nassim el Raqs, in April and May 2011: Shaymaa Shoukry, Mohamed Fouad, Frederic Gies and Mohamed Shafik. Nassim el Raqs was the first attempt made by a collective of 4 local cultural organizations (Rezodanse, French Institute, Goethe Institute and Agora) to implement a contemporary dance festival in public locations in Alexandria, involving local and international artists. The outputs of the work carried out in the 4 locations was presented to the audience on 2 nights in May 2011.

Tonight’s screening will also give us the opportunity to present the new edition of the project which is currently under preparation. 4 new artists will be invited in April and May 2012 to create site specific works in 4 locations throughout Alexandria, and the result of their work will be presented on 10th and 11th May to the public.

Entry to the screening is free.

We hope to see you tonight
