Nassim el Raqs 2014 welcomed the choreographer Arno Schuitemaker for a first artistic residency

The first artistic residency of Nassim El Raqs festival was launched last week. Arno Schuitemaker, Dutch dancer and choreographer, has been invited to oversee the creation of 4 original performances by Egyptian dancers: Fatma Mosleh and Mohamed Fouad from Alexandria, Shahd El Khattabi and Ahmed El Gendy from Cairo. Arno focuses his work on the definitions of personal and shared space, on the relationship between the individual and his/her environment, which makes his participation in Nassim el Raqs particularly valuable. Only 3 of the dancers took part in this first residency, and Mohamed Fouad will join at a later date, being currently busy on another artistic project in France.

Arno accompanied the dancers present throughout their research and creation process, from the choice of a suitable outdoor location to the way to integrate this place in their writing and in their dance, or rather to adapt their dance to their chosen environment. A poetical journey will emerge from this intense artistic collaboration around 4 Alexandrian unknown landmarks. Look at Alexandria with different eyes, through contemporary dance…

This first phase will be followed by another artistic residency, in the end of April 2014.

The 4^th edition of Nassim El Raqs will take place from 6 to 10 May 2014. As an experimental dance festival in public spaces, designed and implemented by Momkin – Espace de Possibles and Rézodanse Egypte, Nassim El Raqs provides qualitative outcomes through a unique approach, and creates opportunities to strengthen artistic links between Egyptian and international artists, and to encourage original pieces of work in public spaces in central Alexandria.

The project ‘4 Solos in the city’ is kindly funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo. The outcome of the artistic residencies will be presented to the audience on 9 and 10 May 2014.

About Arno Schuitemaker:

Arno Schuitemaker was born in 1976 in The Netherlands. After obtaining his Master’s degree at the University of Technology Delft in 2002, Arno decided to completely change course and to study contemporary dance. Since his graduation in 2007, he has created a wide variety of theater and site-specific performances. His work, that has been performed in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, Poland, Luxembourg, Cyprus, China, and the UK, is engaged by existential curiosity. With an uncommon approach to subject matters and performance structures, he constantly searches to unravel the mystery of our body and ourselves. The sensory experience is given priority over a narrative or imagery, creating performances that are not a copy of an external theme but draw their logic from a network of layered and inner (‘many-flavoured’) relationships. Nassim El Raqs 2014 accueille le chorégraphe Arno Schuitmaker pour une première résidence

Les premières résidences d’artistes du festival Nassim El Raqs ont débuté la semaine dernière. Arno Schuitemaker, chorégraphe néerlandais a été invité pour accompagner le travail artistique de quatre jeunes artistes égyptiens : Fatma Mosleh et Mohamed Fouad d’Alexandrie, Shahd El Kattari et Ahmed El Gendy du Caire. Arno axe son travail sur la définition de l’espace public et privé, dans sa relation entre l’individu et son environnement, ce qui donne tout son sens à sa participation à Nassim El Raqs. Seuls 3 des danseurs ont participé à cette première phase de travail, Mohamed Fouad étant actuellement retenu sur un autre projet artistique en France. Ce dernier rejoindra le reste du groupe ultérieurement.

Arno Schuitemaker accompagne les danseurs égyptiens dans leur recherche et leur processus de création, depuis le choix d’un lieu en extérieur adéquat jusqu’à la manière d’intégrer cet espace dans l’écriture chorégraphique et la danse, ou encore sur la manière d’adapter la danse à l’espace qu’ils auront choisi. Cette intense collaboration artistique permettra de créer un voyage poétique dans quatre lieux au coeur de la ville d’Alexandrie, pendant le festival Nassim El Raqs. Cette première étape de travail se poursuivra en avril prochain, à l’occasion d’une nouvelle residence artistique.

Les 4 Solos dans la Ville est un projet qui a reçu le soutien financier de l’Ambassade des Pays Bas au Caire, et qui se déroule dans le cadre du Festival de création chorégraphique Nassim el Raqs. Ce dernier a lieu pour la 4ème fois à Alexandrie. Festival de création chorégraphique et interdisciplinaire en espace public, conçu et mis en œuvre par Momkin – Espaces de Possibles et Rézodanse Egypte, Nassim El Raqs est devenu un rendez-vous incontournable de la scène artistique alexandrine. Il offre de plus la possibilité à des artistes égyptiens et étrangers de développer des liens artistiques et d’initier d’originales créations artistiques en espaces publics. Le fruit des résidences artistiques sera présenté au public les 9 et 10 mai 2014.

A propos de Arno Schuitemaker :

Arno Schuitemaker est né en 1976 aux Pays-Bas. Après avoir obtenu un Master à l’Université de Technologie de Delft en 2002, Arno a complètement changé de cap et s’est mis à étudier la danse contemporaine. A la fin de ses études en 2007, il a créé de nombreuses performances in-situ et théâtrales. Son travail, qui a été présenté aux Pays- Bas, en Belgique, en France, Italie, Suisse, Polande, Luxembourg, Chipre, Chine et en Angleterre, est emprunt d’une curiosité existentielle. Avec une approche rare […], il cherche sans cesse à percer le mystère de notre corps et de nous même. L’expérience sensorielle est prioritaire sur le discours narratif ou sur l’image, créant des performances qui ne sont pas de simples copies de thèmes extrinsèques, mais qui puisent leurs propres logiques d’un réseau multiple et intime de relations/connaissances.

الإقامة الفنية الأولي لأرنو شويتماكير في أطار مهرجان نسيم الرقص2014:

« أرنو شويتماكير » هو راقص و مصمم رقصات هولندي قد تمت دعوتة من قِبَل مركز ريزودانس مصر للأشراف علي أربعة عروض مختلفة للرقص المعاصر تقام في أطار فعاليات مهرجان نسيم الرقص 2014 و تُسَمي العروض بال »4 SOLOS » و تقام العروض في مدينة الإسكندرية بمشاركة أربعة راقصين وهم: « فاطمة مُصلٍح » و « محمد فؤاد » من الإسكندرية و « شهد الخطابي » و « أحمد الجندي » من القاهرة.
و قد شارك ثلاثة فقط من الراقصين في الأقامة الفنية الأولي « لأرنو » أما « محمد فؤاد » سيلحق بهم في الإقامة الثانية في شهر مايو حيث أنه الان بفرنسا للمشاركة بمشروع فني اخر.
و قد رافق « أرنو » الراقصين الثلاثة خلال بحثهم عن المكان المناسب لعروضهم و مساعدتهم علي دمج الموقع المختارفي تصميمهم لرقصاتهم أو بالأحرى حثهم على التكيف على البيئة التي اختاروها.
يذكر أن ال »4 SOLOS » مُمَول بمنحة من سفارة مملكة هولندا بالقاهرة و يقام ضمن أطار فعاليات مهرجان نسيم الرقص و هو مهرجان سنوي مخصص للرقص المعاصر يقيمه مركز ريزودانس مصركل عام و سيقام هذا العام في شهر مايو وستعرض نتائج جميع الإقامات الفنية للجمهور في الاسبوع الاول من مايو عام 2014.

عن « أرنو شويتماكير »:
ولد أرنو في عام 1976 بمملكة هولندا ، بعد حصوله على درجة الماجستير في جامعة دلفت للتكنولوجيا في عام 2002، قرر أرنو تغييرمسار حياتة تماما ودراسة الرقص المعاصر.
منذ تخرجه في عام 2007، قام بالمشاركة في العديد من العروض و التي تم عرضها في هولندا، بلجيكا، فرنسا، إيطاليا، كندا، سويسرا، بولندا، لوكسمبورج، وقبرص، والصين، والمملكة المتحدة.
و مع ممارسته لنهج مميز و غيرمألوف يحاول أرنو دائماً أن تكون عروضه مميزة و مختلقة أيضاً حيث تتميز عروض أرنو بأنه يعتمد علي التجربة الحسية و ليس علي السرد أو الصور.

ستقام النسخة الرابعة من مهرجان نسيم الرقص في شهر مايو من هذا العام وهو مهرجان للرقص المعاصر ينظمه كل عام مركز ريزودانس مصر بالأشتراك مع « ممكن » و « espace des possibles » أصبح مهرجان نسيم الرقص واحد من أهم الأحداث الثقافية على الساحة الفنية المحلية في الإسكندرية و في مصر حيث أنه يخلق فرصا لتعزيز الروابط الفنية بين الفنانين المصريين والدوليين و أيضاً يعمل علي تشجيع فكرة عرض الأعمال الفنية في الشارع و في الأماكن العامة في وسط الإسكندرية.
