Nassim el Raqs is a comprehensive artistic concept which will take place for the first time in Alexandria around the period of Sham El Nessim. The project, initiated by Moutawassat (Emilie Petit, France), is organised by Centre Rézodanse Egypte in partnership with the French Cultural Centre and the Goethe Institut in Alexandria. Nassim el Raqs is a poetical and choreographed journey through Alexandria, in which a group of Egyptian and international artists take over some symbolical locations around the city and transform them into unusual venues for performance. Although mainly based on contemporary dancers and choreographers, the project also involves multimedia and visual artists, who will be collaborating with their fellow dancers and choreographers for the occasion.
The project, dealing with the question of art performance in the public space, will be preceded by a round table and a series of film screenings, in order to raise the awareness of the general public concerning the issues related to creating and performing in outdoor, unusual locations. The audience will then be invited to follow the group of artists involved through selected locations around the city, with the opportunity to rediscover Alexandria through the eyes and the imagination of the artists.

Nassim el Raqs est un concept artistique global qui se déroulera pour la première fois à Alexandrie dans la période de la fête de Sham El Nessim. Le projet, initié par Moutawassat (Emilie Petit, France), est porté par le Centre Rézodanse – Egypte, en étroit partenariat avec le Centre Français de Culture et de Coopération et le Goethe Institut d’Alexandrie. Nassim el Raqs est une balade poétique et chorégraphique à travers Alexandrie, dans le cadre de laquelle des artistes égyptiens et internationaux vont s’approprier des lieux emblématiques à travers la ville pour les transformer en lieux de représentation artistique le temps de l’événement. Bien que notre démarche s’appuie principalement sur la danse contemporaine, le projet verra également la contribution d’artistes visuels et multimédia, qui collaboreront avec les danseurs et chorégraphes le temps de l’événement.
Le projet, qui touche à la question de l’art dans l’espace public, sera précédé d’une table ronde et d’un cycle de projection de films, afin de sensibiliser le public alexandrin aux enjeux liés à la création en extérieur, dans des lieux qui ne sont pas forcément des espaces de représentation. Le public sera ensuite invité à suivre le groupe d’artistes à travers les différents lieux choisis dans la ville, donnant la possibilité de redécouvrir Alexandrie à travers le regard et l’imagination des artistes.

Five different locations selected, in collaboration with the artists:
- The Plaza of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, facing the sea, where a franco-german group of dancers will present a common piece
- The rooftop of the Cinema Rio, open to a collaboration between the dancers of the Silsilah Dance Group, performing under the direction of Bérengère Valour (France), with video works by Mohamed Ossama (Egypt) and a sound arrangement by Claudio (Italy)
- One of the many popular cafés on the seaside, with a performance involving musicians and theatre actors
- The small harbour next to the Citadel, with a poetical proposition by Shaymaa Shoukry (Egypt) and a visual artist
- The ship yard of the Anfushi area, where Mohamed Shafik (Egypt) will create a piece of work using the industrial environment of the boats under construction, with the collaboration of local fishermen.

- Le toit du cinéma Rio, qui verra collaborer les danseurs du Silsilah Dance Group, sous la direction de Bérengère
Valour (France), avec Mohamed Ossama (Egypte) pour la conception vidéo et Claudio (Italie) pour l’univers sonore - L’un des cafés populaires sur le front de mer, avec une performance impliquant des musiciens et comédiens locaux
- Le petit port situé à côté de la Citadelle, qui verra une proposition poétique de la jeune chorégraphe Shaymaa Shoukry (Egypte) en collaboration avec une artiste visuelle
- Le chantier naval d’Anfushy, où Mohamed Shafik (Egypte) proposera une pièce utilisant l’environnement industriel du lieu, en collaboration avec les pêcheurs locaux
